Wyoming State of Mind

Wyoming is one of the more overlooked states, in my opinion. I was actually born in Cheyenne, Wyoming and we lived there until I was 8 before moving 50 miles south to Fort Collins, Colorado.

I credit my parents for the outdoorsy, adventurous spirit in me. Many of my childhood weekends, summers, and school breaks were spent camping, skiing, hiking, and enjoying the wilds of Wyoming.

Medicine Bow National Forest, Vedauwoo, Happy Jack Road, Snowy Range Ski Area, Thermopolis. These are all special places from my childhood but one spot in particular stole my heart, Grand Teton National Park. It’s a spectacular place! I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve been there, but it never ceases to take my breath away by its beauty.

We have camped in different places throughout the years but my favorite has always been Colter Bay. It’s located on the northeast side of Jackson Lake with views of the Teton Range in the distance. The campground at Colter Bay Village has tent sites and cute tent cabins with bunk beds, that were always so fun as a kid.

The area is home to bears, moose, bison, elk, bighorn sheep and so much more. There are hiking trails galore and river rafting trips on the Snake River. I’ve spent countless hours in the fun shops and saloons in Jackson. I’ve been up and back down the mountains in the summer, being chased by horse flies. I’ve splashed around with my nephew in the cold water of Jackson Lake, which was then proceeded by pulling leeches out from the bottom of my feet. Aww such fond memories!

All jesting aside, Wyoming really is full of gems and the Northwest corner is no exception. The Tetons are worth your time and they are ready and waiting to be explored.
